Rock Crystal Quartz

Rock crystal is an alternate and traditional birthstone for the month of April.
My fascination for this stone lead me to create jewelry that mimics as well as make the most out of its sparkly beauty!

August Challenge
This piece is an entry for the “August Based Theme: Intro To Harvest”.
Fall color reports indicate a soft, inviting orange as part of the season’s palette, as we welcome hints of autumn richness.
The Coral Wrap earrings is made from natural coral beads wrapped in crocheted sterling silver. Drop is approximately 1.5 inches.

It’s a lazy, quiet Sunday morning. I’m done with the household chores, have given the little one his bath, and now we sit side by side as I listen to him read his books. I, on the other hand, have my coffee mug at my side as I go through hundreds of photos I’ve taken the past few days of new pieces that I’ll be posting over the next few weeks. However, excitements get me as I can’t wait to share with you what’s in store. 🙂

Classic Weddings Part II
Ashlie requested for a grass-green jewelry set composed of a pair of earrings and bracelet for her 5 bridesmaids. The wedding colors are purple and green. I presented her with this:
THE EARRINGS: Crocheted sterling silver wire formed into discs surrounded by green swarovski crystals with smooth amethyst rondelle in the middle. Size 1 inch in diameter. Dangler earring that is very elegant and organic earrings. Sturdy construction but very lightweight.
BRACELET: Austrian crystals wire wrapped with sterling silver wire.
Ashlie loved the idea and request for a bridal headpiece. All she said was that she wanted it white and sparkly.

The color for 2010: Turquoise
I have always been fascinated with this gemstone and if I remember correctly, it was the first gemstone I ever worked with!
The ancient Egyptians used turquoise in jewelry. It’s color ranges from greenish-blue or pale sky blue. The name means “Turkish stone” as it came to Europe by way of Turkey. Turquoise was mined more than 6,000 years ago in Sinai and is one of the oldest protection amulets, and was also known as a symbol of wealth in many ancient cultures.
If given a turquoise by a loving friend, that stone would protect the wearer from negative energy and bring good fortune. The turquoise is the symbol of friendship. It also brings peace to the home.
This stone is a very personal and meaningful stone to one who wears it. It takes on the characteristics of the owner.
The baghag, one of my daily blog reads, said that turquoise is the color for 2010. And thus, in honor of this beautiful stone, I’d like to share with you a few creations. Enjoy!
That’s why I love to experiment!
A client wanted something big, but not too big. Round. With turquoise gemstones and definitely not a dangler. Something that can be worn during the day but classy enough for the evening.
A vague description with very little to work with. This is why I do not sketch any of my designs. I love to experiment and I like seeing my imagination run wild. Most of all, I try as much as possible to incorporate my signature designs to the client’s description.
Thus, the final product:
Memorable Weddings (1 of 2)
The first wedding client I ever had was my cousin.
Her request was for me to create an accessory line for her entourage that will go well with their gowns.
She also asked me to make her wedding cord. This she was very specific. She wanted one in the shape of a rosary so as to put in the altar after the wedding.
For her, there was the bridal watch. I was very nervous about this. She wanted it stretchable. I can’t find a photo of it, though.
For her wedding coordinators, she asked me to create something in their favorite colors. I decided on a necklace. One was a detachable triple strand necklace, the other was a detachable double strand. Again, I can’t find the photos.
Then a few years after, our youngest girl cousin tied the knot, she also asked for my help.
For this wedding I made 150 rosary souvenirs
for the maid of honor
for the bride’s mother, my aunt
for the mother in law
for the grandma
ornate headbands for the flower girls
a hairvine for the bride
For the principal sponsors, I made wire-wrapped bookmarks and peinetas
Last but not least, the wedding cord

My winter wonderland
Eversince I received a package of rock crystals in the mail, I’ve imagined all the jewelry designs to have something of a winter-snow effect…..with the glistening whiteness of the crystals, that’s all I could ever think about. So together with my stash of white stones, I decided to come up with a collection which I aptly named: WINTER SONATA.
Here are some of the pieces so far:
ICICLE EARRINGS
SPRING IN WINTER EARRINGS
Rock crystals are woven around the disc to give the effect of icicles falling from a tree to its leaves.
The leaves are made from faceted apple green chalcedony briolettes (11 carats).
ICEBERG EARRINGS
The name says it all, right? Rock crystal chips are woven in crocheted sterling silver wire.
WINTER PRINCESS EARRINGS
A very delicate-looking but sturdy pair of earrings.
Crocheted sterling silver wire formed into a flower from where white faceted jade briolettes hang.
Customized
In one occasion, I made this pair of earrings:
(White turquoise drops, midnight black Austrian crystals, wrapped in sterling silver wire)
Separately, I also made this pendant:
(White turquoise drops wrapped in 10k solid gold wire)
Upon seeing these two, a client wanted the design of the earrings but with solid gold wire instead of sterling silver, so that it would match the pendant.
This pair is a bit heavy (well, for me, that is) so instead of the lever back, I suggested that we use earring posts. This is how it came out:

Recently, there was another request for a customized item.
I posted this on etsy. It is made with golden citrine Austrian crystals wrapped in stainless steel wire.
The request was to use sterling silver instead of stainless steel.
Thus:
It’s always a delight whenever I get requests to customize a design because its sort of a challenge specially when the client is very specific with what she/he wants.
Things to do this weekend
1. Go to my supplier. I’ve to get the stones for a wedding. It’s a huge order so I think I’ll need two trips for this, plus I ran out of solid gold wire and earring posts.
2. Visit my sister. She’s going to borrow a few pieces for a premiere night. I’m thinking of lending her the following:
