Inspired by a Celebrity

These two couples are popular celebrities in the Philippines.  I will not go through the story on how their “surprise” “mob” wedding came about (just google: Carmina and Zoren wedding), but I will tell you how I came about noticing the beautiful earrings the bride wore.

THE REQUEST

A client approached me in December and asked if I saw the wedding on tv.  I said I did not and she told me her sister, who lives in the US saw it.  She was getting married in December and wanted a similar pair of earrings to that of Carmina’s (the celebrity).

TIME FRAME

2 weeks.  I had about 2 weeks to make this pair.  That, plus 2 other weddings I was preparing for.  But I will never back out of a challenge.  Besides, new supplies and materials just arrived from the mail and they were just sooo perfect to recreate the piece.

DILEMMA

There were no close up photos of the earrings.  The closest I got was this photo:

THE PROCESS

The inspiration piece looked like it had a large diamond stud from where a teardrop-shaped dangler hung and from this dangler, a couple of smaller teardrop-shaped danglers also hung.

The ClassicSparklers’ filigree technique was fully used on this piece.  All sterling silver where diamond Swarovski faceted bicones were scattered about for that added shine.  For that diamond stud, I used faceted Austrian crystals.  For the smaller danglers I used sterling silver bezel set cubic zircons.

THE FINAL PRODUCT

Something For Me

Growing up in a Catholic family, its already in my blood to be religious.  How, you say? For as long as I remember, I used to wear a scapular every single day.  I only stopped wearing it in law school when the string tore in two.

So I guess this does not come as a surprise to create something with a religious theme around it.

My first product: a sterling silver necklace with a stainless steel medallion adorned with purple and Alexandrite Swarovski bicone crystals.

It turned out really okay cause after I wore it at several occasions (even to work) I suddenly received orders to make more.

Feedback was good, so I decided to come out with more — better and fancier — designs.  I’d like to keep it a secret for now but this is a sneak preview of what the “raw” material looks like:

How do you like it?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

How did your day go?

The hubs and I spent it at home.  Yes, it was just another day at work for us and school day for the little one but we went home early and spent more time together.  The little one gave us a card they did at school while the hubs gave me this:

The people at work wore something red but I didn’t and wore my usual blackoffice suit.  I didn’t even think of wearing any red accessory.  My boss noticed this and I realized, maybe I should have worn something to commemorate the event?

For those in the same situation, here are a few things available in my shop:

24k vermeil filigree ear studs, handmade discs, Swarovski crystals

Austrian crystals, red coral, 14k gold

Garnet ear studs, carnelian, 14k gold

Red coral beads, handmade 14k gold discs

Carnelian, orange jade, 14k gold

red turquoise, 14k gold

Rubellite, red tuquoise, 14k gold

Red coral, sterling silver

Red turquoise, garnets, sterling silver

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!!!

Mughal Princess

The request: re-work the  client’s freshwater pearl earring and pendant.  Use sterling silver.

The dilemma: how?

The solution:

Make my mark with the J.Pedreria Collection’s signature nest setting.  Add a little sparkle with a diamond cubic zirconia ear stud in bezel setting.  It came out like this:

Looks nice.  Sparkly.  Elegant. Classic.

But remember, ClassicSparklers is all about versatility and creativity.  Stopping here cannot and does not put those two principles into place.

How about if we add some tassels?

Wow.  The execution is perfect and the earrings become ostentatiously beautiful and glamorous!

But you can’t and do not use this kind of earring to the work place right? I do not think this will go well with a suit.

So let’s make it more versatile: MAKE THE TASSELS DETACHABLE!!

What about the pendant?

I decided to just add the nest setting.

When you have an ornate earring, the necklace should be very simple. Amp it up but do not create a confusion between your neckline and/or your ears/head.

Besides, you can remove both tassels of each earring and add them to the pendant, and VIOLA!

I must admit that this was a very very very very challenging piece.

For the tassels I used beautiful Israelicut white topaz from India, silver pyrite also from India and Swarovski crystals.  I also made a nice bead cap.  All other components are sterling silver.

I plan to make more pieces like this in the future.

If you want to have one customized for you (something to wear for the holidays perhaps? *wink*), leave a comment or send me a message here.

The Locket

I have always been drawn to different kinds of locket necklaces so whenever I chance upon a nice locket pendant, I always try to incorporate it in my collection.

Gold filled lockets are hard to find and solid gold lockets do not carry the particular design I want.  These new set of lockets I currently have in store are made from high quality brass.  Now the question is, how to clean brass.  I simply soak them in lemon water: I squeeze half a lemon in a small glass of water.  I leave them soaking for about 30 minutes then use a nice soft brush to gently scrub.  The natural acids of the lemon help make the brass shine like brand new!

With these new lockets I added flat-backed Swarovski crystals.

They hang from 14k gold filled chain and fall just below the collarbone.

Simple. Clean. Chic.  A great combination for jewelry you want to wear everyday.

A New Challenge

The Request:  Sparkly bib necklace

The client wanted one that was sparkly and had a garden them.  Not green but colorful.  Now, it is a common thing to think about Swarovski crystals when you say “sparkly” right?  But I did not want to be ordinary but wanted this project to be extraordinary!

I could not work with diamonds because the client had a budget as well.  So why not Russian diamonds?

Not quite.

But almost there 🙂

Watches

I don’t exactly recall how I started making watch bracelets.  I think I walked into my supplier’s store and saw a gazillion of watch heads.  My mind started spinning from all the ideas.   They were an instant hit and eventually got sold out, also because became popular as part of wedding packages I also offered in multiply.
